It is Ireland's second oldest university, tracing its origins to the foundation of the Royal College of St. Patrick in 1795.

The University draws inspiration from a heritage that includes over 200 years of education and is a place of lively contrasts. It is a modern institution, dynamic, rapidly-growing, research-led and engaged, yet grounded in historic academic strengths and scholarly traditions.

NUI Maynooth is located in the historic town of Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland, 20 km west of Dublin. Its grounds consist of two connected campuses; an older south campus of 19th century buildings, shared with St. Patrick's College, and a modern north campus, occupying circa 100 acres.

The University is internationally recognised for the quality and value of its research and scholarship and its dedication and commitment to teaching.

The University community comprises over 9,000 students and 800 staff from more than 20 countries. The institution has grown rapidly in recent years, but retains a student-centred and deeply collegial ethos.
